Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has recently announced compensation for the families affected by the Uttarakhand floods, with atleast 52 people dead and five still missing in the recent naturally destructive rain-related incidents. The Uttarakhand Government announced Rs 4 lakh ex gratia to the kith kin of the deceased. A compensation of Rs 1.09 lakh and Rs 95,000 will be given for damaged houses while Rs 5000 would be offered to the families of those whose houses were damaged by the flood waters that had entered. As per the CM, compensation for the loss of cattle would also be given.
Uttarakhand's Ranikhet and Almora remain cut off from the plains and was forced to ration fuel for emergency services for a second consecutive day, as the floods, landslides and other disasters gets triggered by four days of heavy rainfall.
There is a little or no fuel available in Ranikhet, which is located around 320 km from Dehradun, what is left has been reserved for emergency services. Low-voltage electricity has been restored after 24 hours and the fiber optic cable services has been cutoff in multiple locations.
As per the ANI report, seven people died in Almora which is located around 345 km from Dehradun.
Overall at least 52 people have been dead in the recent rain-related incidents across the state, as confirmed through investigative reports by a senior police officer named Nilesh Anand Bharne.
The Army along with various teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local authorities have been conducting rescue and relief operations. The NDRF has already rescued more than 1,300 people from flood-affected areas in the state and enhanced its rescue teams from 15 to 17,as per the statement of the federal force on 20th Oct, Wednesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD),in its forecast has said that the rainfall will reduce reluctantly from Wednesday onwards with the state likely to stay dry for the rest of the week. Uttarakhand overall as a state among all states in the entire nation had received record breaking rainfall this week, leading to floods, landslides and destruction of property.
