I am Lankadhipati Ravana.... Arvind Trivedi, who played the role of Lankesh in Ramanand Sagar's famous serial 'Ramayana', is no more. He was 82 years old. In the 90s, when his voice resonated on the TV set, even the viewers used to get goosebumps. If Arun Govil got immortal recognition as Ram from this serial, then actor Arvind Trivedi's role of Ravana also became memorable. He had been ill for a long time. He had a heart attack last night and could not be saved.
Ravana was a devotee of Rama.
Even though he was seen fighting with Rama on the TV screen, in real life Arvind Trivedi was a great devotee of Rama. He himself had told that when he used harsh words against Ram in the serial, he later apologized to God. In the Corona lockdown last year, when the Ramayana serial started airing again on TV, his pictures also surfaced on TV channels. He was seen watching Ramayana on TV.
Every time Arun Govil appeared on the screen in the role of Lord Ram, Arvind would bow down with folded hands. The generation born in this century might be surprised to know that even people sitting in front of the TV at that time used to join hands, worship and cheer after seeing Arun Govil in the role of Lord Ram. In a conversation with the media last year, family members had told that most of the time of the elderly Arvind Trivedi was being spent in devotion to God.
'Ram-Lakshman', 'Sita' Deepika Chikhaliya also expressed grief over the death of 'Ravana' Arvind Trivedi
Worked in 300 Hindi-Gujarati films
Who can forget his roar in the role of Ravana? If seen from the acting point of view, he had brought life to the role of Ravana. Later, in all the serials made on Ramayana, all attempts were made to copy the character of Ravana like Arvind Trivedi. He acted in around 300 Hindi and Gujarati films.
Contested election on BJP ticket
Along with cinema, he was also associated with politics. Popularity was at its peak when he contested from the Sabarkantha seat of Gujarat in 1991 on a BJP ticket and won. He was a Lok Sabha MP from 1991 to 1996.
It is interesting that at that time Arvind Trivedi was more famous by his name than Lankesh. Wherever he used to hold meetings, people would ask him to speak the dialogues of Ravana. His name is also found written in election related documents as Arvind Trivedi (Lankesh).

1991 election results
'Ravan' got more than 48 percent votes
Arvind Trivedi (Lankesh) got 48.28% i.e. total 168704 votes from Sambarkatha seat in 1991 elections. JD(G) candidate Maganbhai Manibhai Patel at number two got 37.86 percent votes (132286 votes). The third number, Rajmohan Gandhi of Janata Dal, got 9.66 percent and a total of 33746 votes. A total of 20 candidates were in the fray in that election and barring three, all got less than 1 percent of the vote.
Lankesh's rallies used to attract huge crowds at that time. People used to walk from many kilometers away to see and hear him. Even though such a famous actor was contesting the elections, but at that time also the stakes went to defeat him. Two more Trivedi candidates were fielded or fielded in that election to cut votes but Lankesh won with a huge margin.
